Lastwell questions, answered
Everything people ask before they try a forecasting app that doesn’t touch their bank.
Common questions
- What is Lastwell?
- Lastwell is a personal cash flow forecast app. You tell it your balance, your pay and your bills, and it projects your real bank balance day by day so you know how long your money lasts and what you will have on any future date.
- Does Lastwell connect to my bank account?
- No, and it never will. There is no bank login, no Plaid-style aggregator and no read-only feed. You enter your numbers manually, which takes a few minutes once and a few seconds a week after that.
- How is it different from YNAB, Monarch or Mint-style apps?
- Those are envelope or categorisation tools built around money you already spent. Lastwell is forward-looking: the core screen is a projected balance and a runway date, and the assistant answers spend questions with a number computed from your own schedule.
- Does it handle biweekly and semi-monthly pay?
- Yes. Weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly and annual, plus weekend rules so a bill that falls on a Sunday can shift to the Friday before or the Monday after. Three-paycheque months appear automatically in the forecast and the insights feed.
- How do credit cards work in the forecast?
- A card purchase raises the card balance but does not touch your cash on that date. Your cash is only reduced by the payment on the due date, sized by your strategy: full statement, a fixed amount, or the minimum with interest carried on the rest.
- Can I model loans and extra payments?
- Yes. Enter the balance and the installment, and Lastwell projects the payoff date. In what-if mode you can add an extra payment and see the new payoff date and what it costs you month to month.
- What is what-if mode?
- A named scenario layered over your real numbers. Add a hypothetical expense, a raise or an extra loan payment and the timeline draws a second dashed line against your baseline, with a plain-language summary of the difference. Commit a scenario to make it real, or discard it.
- Is there a free version, and what does it cost?
- Yes, there is a free tier that covers forecasting, the calendar, cards, loans and every calculator on this site. No credit card is needed to create an account.
- Can I use it on my phone?
- Lastwell is a progressive web app: open it in Safari or Chrome on your phone and add it to your home screen. It then launches full-screen like an installed app.
- Which currencies are supported?
- Any currency you choose in settings. Canadian dollars is the default; US dollars, pounds and euros all work the same way. Money is stored as exact whole cents, never as rounded floats.
- Can I export or delete my data?
- Yes. You can export your data and you can delete your account permanently at any time, which removes your accounts, bills, transactions, loans and scenarios.
- Is this financial advice?
- No. Lastwell is a planning and arithmetic tool. It projects the consequences of the numbers you enter; the decisions stay yours.
